CSI SAP2000 and ETABS are structural analysis program that is ideal for analysis and design of structural elements like beams, columns, slabs, trusses, cables, shells, etc. The objective of this program is to provide the knowledge to use SAP2000 and ETABS software for structural analysis and design of a residential and a multistory building. The unit enable students to get proficiency in structural design of a building and a student can be able do the structural design of buildings on their own projects.

MI/1018/01     Introduction to structural analysis and design      

  • The student will be able to understand the analysis of various types of statically determinate and indeterminate structures.

MI/1018/02     Concept of structural form 

  • To understand the concrete and steel structural form to resist and transfer the load on the structure in shorter path

MI/1018/03     Introduction of building codes and standards.      

  • To understand the practicing codes of practices for concrete design.
  • To understand the criteria for design of structures

MI/1018/04     Material, Stability, sustainability, durability, fire resistance and robustness.

  • To understand the initial design concept and determination of conceptual framework of structure.                        
  • To understand the classical concept of stability and Stability of continuous systems
  • Stability of frames, Stability of beams, and Introduction to inelastic buckling and dynamic stability

MI/1018/05     Introduction to computer aided software

  • learners will be introduced to model structural elements and techniques as follows;
    • Effect of node and element numbering
    • Concept of degrees of freedom and constraints
    • Introduction to elements of computer software
    • Use the software to compare the simply supported beams and cantilevered beam to verify with manual method of analysis and design.
    • Complex frames of 2D and 3D will be introduced to analyze and they can learn how to calculate Support Reaction, Axial Force, Shear Force and Bending Moment of Beam.
    • They learn basics of SAP 2000 which will help them to go for advanced course of SAP2000/ETABs easily.
    • Analysis of different type of structure and validate the structural stability
    • Further, Interactive Data Base editing, Shell elements, Models with both element type, Static Analysis of a building, Dynamic Analysis of a Building, Modeling of a bridge pier with piles and with a spread footing will be introduced.
    • ETABS software will be used for the analysis of concrete shear walls and concrete moment frames. It is highly acclaimed for static and dynamic analysis of multi-storey frame and shear wall buildings.

MI/1018/06     Design and Detailing

  • Interactive element design and detailing will be covered.

MI/1018/07     Final Project 

  • Learners will be able to model structural buildings using SAP2000, ETABS
